Chairman's Report 2015

I would like to start this report by particularly mentioning the two people sitting either side of me.

The first is our treasurer and my wife Celia. The reason for giving her a special mention is that today is our 49th wedding anniversary and I would like to say a big thank you to her for putting up with me for all those years. You will be hearing from her later as to how the Club has fared financially over the past year.

The second is our secretary Diane Horscraft. Diane has been our secretary for the past 8 years but unfortunately, due to other commitments, has decided to step down. I'm sure that you would all like to join me in thanking her for her valuable contribution over those years.

Once again the Club continues to thrive with our monthly meetings, two shows and our annual trip. Phyllis had decided to stand down as trip secretary and we have to thank her for doing such a great job in organising the trips. Lindsey Irvine has kindly offered her services for this post and we will deal with that when we elect the officers. There are far too many people to thank individually for our Club's success, so I would like to say a big collective thank you to them, both committee members and non-committee members alike, and to all our members new and old for their support. It would be remiss of me however, if I didn't thank all those who contributed cakes and produce to our stall at the Autumn show in lieu of the WI stall and you will see how successful that was in the annual report.

On this note I would like to ask for your help. We cannot continue to thrive and grow if we don't get new blood to help run the Club. We were fortunate last year to welcome Lindsey Irvine and Barry Key on to the committee and they have both got involved with various tasks and eased the burden somewhat, but it is not enough. We desperately need to get more help, either as committee members, or helping behind the scenes. We are not short of ideas but we are short of people to implement them. So please, ask yourself, is there anything that I can do to help?

The last thing that I would like to say on this subject, is that I have been your Chairman now for the past 13 years (some organisations have a term limit of 3 years) and although I enjoy being your chairman you should really start thinking of a possible replacement. Also, with the involvement of my wife as treasurer, my daughter as assistant treasurer and my grandson Alex helping out where he can, there is a possibility that some may think that this is the Mansfield family Club. I have seen this happen too many times in various other Societies, so let me reassure you that this is the Tiptree Garden Club and Horticultural Society and we are here to serve you, not the other way round.

Finally, may we continue to thrive and enjoy a successful Club for many years to come.
